Snoop Dogg, Meet Akshay Kumar

Lately I've been listening to NPR on my drive home from work—a mere nine minutes. Yesterday on All Things Considered I heard this story on Snoop Dogg's latest single "Singh Is King" on which he collaborated with Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, above (not Ben Stiller).

Because I find both Snoop Dogg and South Asian music incredibly sexy, I am naturally drawn to this breed of music. The story mentions the British artist M.I.A., or Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam, who I also find incredibly sexy (remember the video for "Galang?") and is a good example of this unlikely breed of music.

The story evoked memories of my university's strangely titillating South Asian Society shows, scenes from Bend It Like Beckham and The Namesake, and being in the UK—real and imagined. NPR and my own associations delivered a story that gave me chills—the good kind, of course.
